Alexander Wiedemann
Background
Alex's areas of expertise are centered in graph theory, linear algebra, operator theory, and mathematical physics, increasingly with applications in data science.
Broadly, he seeks to understand the mathematical interplay between various continuous and discrete structures, always interested in potential applications thereof. Almost all of his research involves networks / graphs in some way, and most can be considered applied to some degree.
Alex tends to consider himself a theoretical mathematician who works on applied problems, using real-world data or physical models to glean insight into and motivate his theoretical work.
He is also interested in the roles of diversity and inclusivity in mathematics, and in the development of teaching practices which better serve students from underserved groups.
